With diligence, courage and optimism Toni Bender has set up her own fruit stand in Munich's superstore. Her husband Heinz who has just returned from a POW-camp is too demoraliszed to deal with Toni's new self confidence. The unemployed architect can not accept that he depends on her and feels superflous. Toni realizes that they get more ans more estranged, but she sticks by him.
Therefore it hurts her all the more when she learns that Heinz has affaire with younf Claire-Marie. Deeply disappointed she moves into a hotel and plans on getting divorced.
Now, more than ever she concentrates on her work. When her Italian importor Also Matthey calls because a truck-load of fruits is being blocked, she travels South spontaneously. Aldo turns out to be not only extremely coperative but also very charming and considerate. Toni spends a wonderful but completely innocent New Years evening with him.
