Claus Pedersen leads a danish unit in Afghanistan. During a routine mission his unit comes under heavy fire. Eben though he doesn't know from where they are shot at he calls for air support. The following air strike kills several afghan civilians, which results in Pedersen being accused of a war crime.
At home, his wife has to raise their three kids and after Pedersen's accusation, she tells him to lie, so he doesn't have to go to prison. Despite his bad conscience he tells a lie. The prosecutor does not believe him, but after one of his men backs his lie up, Pedersen is set free. Yet, he is still haunted by his decision.
