plot synopsis:
The film shows three episodes, each of half an hour, from France, Germany and Poland. They each deal with the moment of peace in one of the three countries and show a concrete situation of peace.

The french episode takes place in 1944 in the Normandy and shows how the British troops invaded the land to free the people. Since the fall of France in 1940 a young boy and an old woman struggle for life together. Because of the war the boy is still illiterate and the woman became mad.

The German episode takes place in the first days of may in 1945. In a big apartment house in Berlin the inhabitants flee into the cellar, to be save from the Russians. A 17 year old boy reflects about the neighbours, who normally argue, but find new solidarity in this special situation. The moment of peace is put into a strong image: The boy returns to his flat and turns on American jazz music from the radio very loud.

The polish episode takes place in the late summer of 1944. The Russians arrive in Poland. But the events are put aside by the private problems of a boy. The love to a girl and the test in an illegal college group are the only things he can think of. On the day of peace the boy fails privately two times: He fails in the test and he sees the girl with another man. In this Moment he is not interested into peace.
