As the title of the American miniseries suggests, the story of The Pacific, based on the experiences of war veterans Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie, deals with events that took place during the Second World War in the Pacific. The focus is on the experiences of the three US Marines Eugene Sledge, Robert Leckie and John Basilone, who served in various regiments of the 1st US Marine Division. The series takes the viewer across the Pacific across Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and back to the USA where aspects of life as a war returnee are shown.
