The film takes place during the occupation in the ghetto of Vilnius and deals with Jakob Gens, the commander of the Jewish ghetto police. On the one hand he cares for peace in the ghetto, but on the other hand he takes part in the selection. In his role as an accomplice of the self-managed euthanasia, he tries to prevent injury and win time until to the German defeat. Gens has a difficult role, in that he is victim and perpetrator at the same time.
