On Memorial Day in 1995 the 13-year-old Kyle finds his grandfather Bud’s WW2 footlocker, so he and Bud play a game: Kyle is allowed to pick Bud’s old WW2 souvenirs and Bud has to tell him the story behind each one. Later, Kyle’s wartime future in the Iraq is shown so that the parallel experiences of two man from two generations in two different wars become obvious.
