The movie Jarhead 2 is set during the war in Afghanistan, in which the USA was involved from 2001 to 2014. Experienced non-commissioned officer Chris Merrimette is part of a supply detachment operating in an area occupied by the Taliban. When his superior offers him a vacant position as squad leader, Merrimette agrees and is given his first assignment: to lead a supply squad.
The troop comes under heavy fire from the Taliban in the desert, killing several soldiers and destroying their vehicles. On their way to a US military camp, Merrimette and his men encounter a Navy SEAL who is protecting an Afghan resistance fighter after his unit has been attacked by the Taliban. Several SEALs were killed in the attack. It quickly becomes clear that the soldiers now have a common mission: to free the freedom fighter safely from the Taliban-controlled area and bring her to the US base.
During another attack, the Taliban manage to capture the freedom fighter. In a dramatic rescue operation, the US soldiers risk everything to save her. But the mission comes at a high price: several soldiers die in the battle. In the end, only two men - Merrimette and Allen - survive and have to deal with the bitter losses and the effects of the war.
