The film is based on the memories of R. H. Bruce Lockhart, who was the inofficial British emissary to the Russian Revolutionary government in 1917. He has to stop the Bolsheviks from signing a treaty with the regime of World War I Germany. But the film shows more romantic scenes, than dealing with the beginning of Bolshevism.
