Malaysia, 1945, the war has just ended. During the war Ferris had been running a guerrilla force against the Japanese. Now that the battles are done, he opts to stay on and becomes a wealthy real estate owner. He enjoys his new life with his girlfriend, a local girl named Dhana. Their relationship is only temporarily disturbed by Candace, the daughter of Malaya's British governor, who is infatuated with Ferris. A different disturbance comes from one of his reemerged old buddies from the war, Ng. Following the war, Ng spent several years in the Soviet Union and is now working with Communist-backed guerilla forces who begin attacking all the landowners, pointedly excluding Ferris from their attacks. The British governor wants Ferris to trap Ng, but he refuses. Dhana is also above turning in her pal, so she is framed by the authorities and sentenced to be executed. Candace nobly allows herself to be taken hostage by Ng, and word gets back that she will be killed unless Dhana is released. Ferris senses that it's time to toss loyalty out the window, so he goes in bravely, rescues Candace, and sends Ng's aides running. He's not fast enough to get back before Dhana is executed, however. After a struggle between Ng and Ferris, Candace shoots the terrorist. With Ferris 's lover gone, Candace thinks she can replace Dhana in his affections, but he thanks her and wearily suggests that she find love in the arms of a younger man.
