After French cameramen and photographers had been closely watched by the censor, regulations were somewhat loosened by the end of the 1920ies. Some of the material that was banned at the time of its production can be examined here for the first time. According to the title links the film is dedicated to the cameramen who died during the making of these pictures. The film starts with a group of so-called "geulles cassées", war veterans who suffered major face injuries, a group that played an important role in France`s pacifist movement during the interwar years.
"Pour la paix du monde" is a film with a clearly pacifist message showing the everyday brutality of war, i.e. when the soldiers in the trenches walk by the remains of their dead comrades without noticing. There are scenes displaying the impact of shell fire where it is clearly visible how enemy artillery closes in on and finally hits the French trenches. Scenes from behind the front show German prisoners and fresh Frech reenforcements passing each other by in opposite directions. In contrast to the Germans who with quick steps almost happy walk into captivity the French drag their feet to the front.
