The film centers on Kane, an elderly japanese woman living on her traditional farm, who survived the atomic blast at Nagasaki in World War II. During the vacations, her four grandchildren are spending the summer with her. They insist on seeing the memorial of Nagasaki, what brings back the memories of the bombing day, at which Kanes husband and a number of siblings died. Though she tries not to think about it, but gets to know that her elder brother, who went to Hawaii to seek his fortune, is on his deathbed and would very much like to see his sister one last time. Her half-American nephew Clark is venturing to Nagasaki to escort her to Hawaii.
