Shortly after the Second World War: racked with fever Frantisek, called Franta, lies suffering in a Czech prison camp. During the war hze fled to England and served as pilot for the Air Force. But for the new masters, the communist, he is smebody who collaborated with the enemy.
In flashbacks the film tell the story of his escape where he gets to know the young Karel. Together the make it to London and become pilots. There, they both fall in love with Susan whose husband is missing in action.
