Joseph Goebbels, Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, escapes in 1944 an assasination on his way to the Obersalzberg. Heinrich Himmler, his rival, is supposed to be the manipulator. Goebbels also hears the rumour that there should exist a Doppelgänger. On his way back from the Obersalzberg Goebbels sets out to search for him. This Doppelgänger is the Jew Harry Geduldig, who has been trained to act like Goebbels for ten years. When the two men meet there is a mix-up and the real Goebbels is kept in the camp, whereas Geduldig succeeds to escape and take his love Grete Zipfel with him.
In Nürnberg he speaks on a party meeting and afterwards he leaves for the Obersalzberg, where he is to meet Hitler and "his" wife Magda...
