During the First World War John, a soldier in France, writes a letter to his wife Sara in Milwaukee. He tells her how much strenght she gives to him and reports about the No Man's Land and a planned charge. Then the letter gets a report. John reaches a German soldier, who doesn't fire even when John is near, but jumps into a trench next to him. Then there is silence and the end of the letter.
