plot synopsis:
René Bousquet, police governor in the unoccupied part of France in 1942, although he has to make a compromise with the Germans. He becomes a succesful banker and family man. But
in 1978 the past catchs him up. A magazine accuuses him of beeing responsible for the mass detention of hundreds of parisian jews. he loses his job, and gets hostiled in the street. In 1991 he is defendant from the law, but still he is convinced that his behaviour in that time was accurate, because he tries to rescue Frenchman by deporting nonfrench Jews living in Paris.
