May 1940: Thousands of Allied soldiers are in the French coastal town of Dunkirk, while the German Wehrmacht begins its attack on Europe. The Allies are unable to escape from the area in time and are surrounded. The only way out of this trap is to flee to England across the English Channel. This rescue operation, which went down in history under the name "Operation Dynamo", is the largest military rescue operation in world history to date. All in all over 300,000, mostly British soldiers were evacuated.
