The inexperienced lieutnant Horia Lazar is forced to participate in the Second World War. After disobeying orders led his platoon to victory, which brought him the respect of the troops, Horia returns to his hometown as a hero. The town was saved by his help at the Battle of Budapest. Then he is assigned to fight against a groupe of SS-soldiers who hide in the woods at the end of the war.
