The film takes place in 1930 and deals with the cartographer Walter Russell. He takes an Inuit boy, who suffers from TB, with him to Montreal. In the hospital, where Avik shall be healed, the boy falls in love with the young Albertine. But they get separated and meet again many years later, when Avik is a bomber pilot. But even now their love has no chance, because Albertine is in love with Walter Russell.
