In April 1999 Pakistani soldiers sneeked into the Indian-occupied part of Kashmir. More than 1.000 people lost their lives in the following five monzths of fighting along the LoC, the Line of Control. India eventually won this border conflict against Pakistan, but the trauma of a possible loss of Kashmir remained.

Due to his very patriotic portrayal of the conflict critics accussed director Dutta of merely wnating to cash in on this trauma. Dutta defended himself stating that showed people on both sides of the front, trapped in a useless battle between brothers. The bravery and courage of the soldiers stood in the foreground, which was not anti-Pakistani.

The $60 million production was released at a time when the two nuclear powers converged on the political level. Air traffic between the two neighbours had started on January 1st, 2004, after being interrupted in December 2001 following an attack on the Indian parliament. Since January 15th railway service continued.

Not long after its release the movie was cut short after some theatre owners complained that they had problems screening even three shows of the film due to its long running time of four hours and seven minutes.
Therefore thirty minutes had been cut out.
The deleted portions include the song "Pyar Bhara Geet" and some sequences showing the telephone conversations between the soldiers and their loved ones.

"LoC" has been shot for two-months under tough climatic conditions of Leh-Laddakh. Two technicians died during the shooting.

As usual for Bollywood movies includes a number of songs, one "Main Kahin Bhi Rahoon" is 13 minutes long.
