The film deals with the catholic Moravian village Lakotice during the Summer 1943. There, the farmers are blackmailed by the revengeful outsider und opportunist Ivan Sekal, who denunciates them at the german occupying forces, if they won’t voluntarily give their courts into his possession. The council of the village decides to execute him. Because no one has the courage to do this, they determine the young Jura Baran, who is only for a short time in the village as a blacksmith, to work out the deed. As a protestant in a catholic area, he is an outsider, no one wants to deal with apart from the priest. But as he disclaims the instruction of the farmers, they appliance the „Method Sekal”: They use their knowledge about his work for a partisan group and tell him, that if he refuses to kill Sekal, they will deliver him to the Germans. Jura Baran has to decide. Though it comes to a duel betwenn the two men.
