The aristrocratic officer Edwin Graf von Rothkirch documented his own and his family's lives with his small camera. His son Leopold continued to do so and director Karsten Rau made an impressing documentary out of the private filming material.
Despite his doubts von Rothkirch joined Hitler's Wehrmacht and his way led from Ludwigslust via Austria to Poland, France and Russia. He documented the flight of the storks as well as the death of his enemies in the snow. His last films show the lost war. Wiretappings of his imprisonment after war revealed that he did not agree in filming executions but nevertheless, he was a soldier fighting in a cruel war.
