Every time occupating armies leace a country they do not only leave death and destruction but often children, too. Till today many of these children are searching their fathers. But there were also women in uniforms who left children behind. One of them is the Renate Schodder who was a young employee of the German army in Paris. She got pregnant in 1944 from a French officer. Her son Thomas was born secretly and should have been adopted, but his father fought with the German authorities to keep the child. In letters to Renate he asked her to live in Paris with him, as he loved her, but she stayes away and in 1947 she married in Germany and had another son. Thomas grew up with his French father.
In 1996, after Renate's death, her second son Dieter discovered letters and documents and read of his half brother the first time. It took some time until he had recovered from this shock, but finally he made his way to search for Thomas.
