The movie “Stella. A Life.” is based on the life story of Stella Goldschlag.
Stella Goldschlag, a German Jew, was born in Berlin on July 10, 1922. She had to give up her dream of becoming a jazz singer and making a career on the Brodway when the Second World War broke out. She lived with her parents, Gerd and Toni Goldschlag, in Berlin and tried to obtain an exit visa. This was unsuccessful; as a result, she went into hiding with her parents as the deportations of Jews to extermination camps began around 1942.
After some time, Stella meets the passport forger Rolf Isaakson. They exploited the plight of their fellow citizens until they were both caught by the Gestapo.
Stella Goldschlag is tortured and pressured into believing that she can only save her parents from deportation if she works for the Gestapo. The Gestapo use Stella to scour Berlin and track down Jews in hiding. She poses as a helper and finds out about other hiding places. She passes these addresses on directly to the Gestapo. She thus betrays around 600 Jews.
