During the German occupation the old Albanian problems become even worse. Oppressed by the Germans and divided by bloody feuds poverty futher increases. Only the national struggle for liberation organized by the Communist Party unites the deeply divided country. The film examplary describes this development as it portrays the fate of Mato Gruda who leaves the old animosities behind an joins the struggle for the liberation of his homeland.
