The three-part film tells the story of five friends Charlotte, Wilhelm, Greta, Viktor and Friedhelm. In June 1941, shortly before the attack on the Soviet Union, they meet in Berlin to say goodbye to each other. It is unclear what effect the war will have on each of these individuals. The brothers Friedhelm and Wilhelm, both soldiers of the Wehrmacht, go to war, Greta begins a singing career, Charlotte becomes a nurse and the Jew Viktor tries with increasing desperation to initiate the escape of his parents from Germany while the situation becomes more and more dangerous. Throughout history, everyone makes their individual war experiences, which change them forever. It quickly becomes clear that there won't be much left of the carefree youth and the dreams of the group.
