plot synopsis:
“The Photographer” is a biopic about the life of American photographer Lee Miller (played by Kate Winslet), directed by Ellen Kuras. The movie begins when Anthony Penrose (Josh O'Connor) discovers forgotten photographs of his mother Lee Miller in the attic of his parents' house. Curious about her past, he delves into her life and realizes that she was far more than just a model and muse.
Lee Miller began her career as a successful model, worked with famous photographers and soon discovered her passion for photography. During the Second World War, she persuaded the editor-in-chief of British Vogue (Andrea Riseborough) to allow fashion photography amidst the destruction of London and later went to the front as a war correspondent. Together with her friend and colleague David E. Scherman (Andy Samberg), she was one of the first to document the liberation of the Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps.
The film shows Lee Miller's multifaceted path from fashion and portrait photographer to war reporter and sheds light on her experiences during the war, which had a profound impact on her. Based on the biography “The Lives of Lee Miller” by Antony Penrose, the film provides an intense insight into the life and work of an extraordinary woman who made a name for herself in a male-dominated world and whose images captured the horrors of war.
