Mihai, officer of the local resistance movement, signs on a barge on the Danube as a sailor. He wants to get a hold on the weapons and ammunition destined for the German occupiers and hand them over to his underground fighters. In many dangerous situations he proves his courage and displays unselfish effort, so that eventually the young couple running the barge is convinced of the necessity of partisan warfare. In the end even the captain and his young wife turn into active fighters against the fascist oppressors.
