This film, which came out soon after WW2 ended and is unique in that it was German-made, German-told, yet internationally-released tells the story of several young men, boys really, who are compelled by circumstance (and the local military authorities) to defend their town from the advancing American army and pay a heavy psychological as well as physical price for their efforts.
