plot synopsis:
The movie deals with a poor peasant who enlists in the French amry as a substitue for a rich merchant’s son who wants to avoid the draft. During his time in the French army the Franco-Prussian war 1870/71 brakes loose. He gets wounded and tries to escape from the superior Prussians like the rest of his regiment. On his flight he meets a boy who only speaks German.
