plot synopsis:
A woodcutter who becomes a reluctant partisan fighter in WW II - reluctant to the point that he tries deserting his patriotic duty several times, but somehow never manages to escape as he would like. Slowly, and very much against his will, he begins to see the reasons for fighting the Nazis after all.
