plot synopsis:
In the Lebanon there is a camp of the Palestinians, called Schatila. In this camp doctor Khalil stands at the sick-bed of his friend Yunes, a verteran of the Palestinian struggle for liberation. To save Yunes from the coma, Khalil tells him stories and experiences from both of their biographies. This mosaic of experiences tells the story of a whole population and brings back the drama of the Palestinian exodus. In 1943 Yunes became a Fedajin, a fighter for liberation, at the age of only 16. First he fought against the English, then against the Jews and then against the Israelis. In 1948 the exodus of Schaab separates him from his wife Nahila and their children. From the Lebanon he helps to organize the resitance movement of the Palestinian poppulation. Nahila stays with their parents-in-law in Galiläa. There he meets her secretly in the grotto Bab el-schams (The gate of sun). Nobody knows about this grotto. Nobody and nothing can harm their love story, even not history.
