In three acts the film portrays the resistence of the "ordinary" people during the time of Albania`s occupation by German troops.
Hero of the first episode "Weapons" is Thoma Shpuza, a truck driver, who with the help of the local guerilla manages to get through the German posts to bring ammunition and weapons to the partisans hidden in the mountains.
In the episode "Meco" a shepard joins the partisans. The monastry where his comrades, many of them wounded, sought refuge in is encircled by German troops. Meco orders the partisans to retreat while he fights to keep the enemy at bay. When he finally gets killed, the group has managed to sneak through the encirclement into safety.
The final episode "The Bridge", playing in the first days after the liberation, describes how partisans and peasants work together to construct a bridge which will reconnect the villagers with the other liberated regions.
