The events of the movie take place on 1942, three years following fascist Italy's occupation of Albania. The urban guerilla units organized by the Albanian Communist Party, operate under the difficult conditions of the occupation. A group of children of poor workers and handicraftsmen, is led by members of the urban guerilla units of Tirana from the antifascist organization "DEBATIC". The Debatic boys show themselves to be very active through a siries of action. A new member, Coli, has to earn his daily bread by selling tortoises to the Italians. Meanwhile the enemy, too, is active though their spies. Coli and Agim are captured and barbarously tortured by the enemy agents to make them reveal the connections of the guerilla unit. The torture weakens the boys physically but cannot break their morale.
