The movie “A Journal for Jordan” is based on the true story and memoirs of Dana Canedy. The movie tells the moving love story between Canedy and her fiancé, First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, a US soldier who was stationed in Iraq. In 2005, during his deployment, King began writing a diary for his unborn son Jordan. In this diary, he recorded life lessons, advice and messages of love that he wanted to leave to his son if he did not return from the war.
King refused to complete his tour of duty in Iraq and thus missed the birth of his son because he remained committed to his unit. In July 2006, he submitted the diary to Dana Canedy shortly after witnessing a fellow soldier's participation in a fatal mission. Shortly thereafter, on October 14, 2006, King was killed in a bombing on a street near Baghdad. Jordan was seven months old at the time.
The film highlights both King's unwavering devotion to his family and the special, profound relationship between him and Canedy. Dana, a senior editor at the New York Times, processes her memories of King through the journal and later shares them with her son. “A Journal for Jordan” is a poignant story of love, loss, family and the legacy a father leaves for his child.
