Captain Sam Cahill is happily married to his highschool sweetheart Grace and an affectionate father of two young girls. To serve his country, the decorated marine departs for his next tour of duty in Afghanistan. In contrast to this, Sam`s brother Tommy could hardly be more different. Just released from prison, Tommy reassumes his role of the family`s black sheep. As Sam`s helicopter crashes in the Afghan mountains and he is presumed dead, however Tommy begins to take responsibility for the first time in his life. He stands Grace and her daughters by and helps them to come to terms with Sam`s death. But Sam is not dead. Severely traumatized by capivity and torture, he returns home, where nothing appears to him as before. Sam can`t deal with his terrible experiences and soon his fear and paranoia manifest themselves in the form of jealousy for his brother's relationship with Grace. Finally the situation escalates and Sam has to face his trauma, if he wants to return to normal life.
