plot synopsis:
Russia in 1946, shortly after the end of World War Two: A groupe of German soldiers in Russian captivity is sent to a female camp near Leningrad. Headed by the relentless Commander Pavlov, most of the camp's personell is female. The women, blaming the prionsers for the loss of relatives and beloved onse, react to them with rejection and hatred. Only the camp physician Natalia tries to treat them as human beings. But Pavlov, disapproving her behaviour, uses Natalia's husband, who is physically and mentally disabled and can only live at the camp as long as the Commander tolerates it, as leverage. Moreover, zealous Pavlovl searches for high-ranking SS Officers among the prisoners. Therefore Natalia is told to gain the men's trust and provide him with information, especially on Klaus and Max, his main suspects. Soon, Natalia is not only in conflict between her efforts for humanity and the pressure of Commander Pavlov, but also feels more and more attracted to Max.
