40-year-old Layla Hasan lives with her husband and her son in Adhamiya, which is known to be the stronghold of Sunnite resistance in Bagdad. Layla is an impressing and intelligent woman. As she knows four languages, she had to wor for Saddam Hussein's regime as atranslator. After the outbreak of the war, she hopes that the Americans would bring peace and freedom. But the war brings many challenges for her and her familiy. She suspects that her son is fighting in the resistance against the Americans. Her husband stays evenminded, but works a lot and her sister grows more and more religious and conservative. Layla herself starts dreaming of a better life in another country.
