plot synopsis:
Juliusz Zborski is a survivor of the Nazi concentration camps, who can no longer relate to normal everyday life. The haunting memories of his imprisonment are always with him, paralyse him to the extent that he finally loses his speech and merely stutters. Eventually he is barely able to communicate with his environment. His wife Rozà is torn between the desire to help him and the need to rebuild her life with another man. In the end Juliusz takes the burder off her shoulder by committing suicide.
