1944: Four afroamerican soldiers have to retreat into the village St. anna after being separated during a battle. They get to know that german soldiers plan to attack the village and they attempt to catch a german soldier to get information. They negotiate with italian partisans and are supposed to get one, but one of the italians is a traitor beknownst to the caught german soldier. The traitor kills all but one of the american soldiers, Hector, who later takes care of an orphan boy, Angelo. When Hector meets that traitor decades later in New York City, he kills him and is being arrested. Angelo - by now rich and with a lot of influence - is able to bail him out.
